A Certified Holistic Nutritionist (CHN)…is one who focuses on a natural approach to bring balance to all aspects of the person by integrating the body, mind and spirit.
Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP)…is one who addresses disease as an imbalance in the physical, emotional, spiritual or environmental components of an individual’s life.
In my case, I am also a registered nurse. Therefore, my medical background gives me the advantage of both health outlooks resulting in the advantages of both practices and whole health for the individual.
Holistic nutrition emphasizes the principles of self-care, wellness, prevention and self-responsibility by considering the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of the whole person. It explores the underlying causes of health problems and not merely addressing the treatment of symptoms which does not result in true health and wellness. It also encourages personal responsibility for optimal health while focusing on individual needs, circumstances and lifestyles, and guiding individuals in the development of their inherent capacity to walk in true health.
These principles are enacted through the fostering of a cooperative relationship between me, the nurse nutritionist, and the client. Holistic nutrition promotes positive health habits, the utilization of natural non-drug treatments whenever possible to strengthen the person’s own healing mechanism, and the implementation of educational programs for individuals and the community.
